To my eyes that looks a very complicated layout. i would have thought it better if the relief line was nearest to the shed, as the light engine movements on and off shed would be much neater without all that criss-crossing of the mainlines.. Here is a ho scale locomotive shed i created for my layout, this is recommended for medium sized steam locomotives. connect another section of the shed to the back to make room for longer locomotives.. We based engine shed road on an lms standard design from the 1930s with mechanical coaling and ash plants. engines came on shed, passed the coal and ash plants, onto the turntable then shuffled up through the shed (open at both ends) before leaving again.. The ideal shed layout was of the "double ended" type which allowed the locomotive to enter the depot by an entrance road, travel to the coaling plant and then to the water crane. at the ash pits, the engine would have it's smokebox emptied and it's fire cleaned..
